15th Annual International Survivors of Suicide Day

On November 23rd Join the Survivor Community Around the World:
You Are Not Alone

Have you lost someone to suicide? Every year, the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention sponsors the International Survivors of Suicide Day. It’s an opportunity for the survivor community to come together for support, healing, information and empowerment. This is one of the vital AFSP programs that your Overnight donations help make happen.

This year, join us for International Survivors of Suicide Day on Saturday, November 23, 2013.

In 1999, National Survivors of Suicide Day was created by a U.S. Senate resolution, through the efforts of Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, who lost his father to suicide. With its passing, the US Congress designated the Saturday before Thanksgiving as National Survivors of Suicide Day, a day in which friends and family of those who have died by suicide can join together for healing and support. In recognition of suicide's worldwide impact and that sites are organized on every continent, our program is called International Survivors of Suicide Day.

What you can expect during the program:

  • Survivors of suicide loss share their stories and guidance for the benefit of the newly bereaved
  • Experts share current information about suicide and grief.
  • Local events may plan other healing activities before and after showing the DVD program.

"Your journey is your journey, and it's very personal"

How to find a location near you: International Survivors of Suicide Day conferences will be taking place in hundreds of cities across 6 continents. Visit our Survivor page to find a location near you.  If you are not able to attend one of the conferences worldwide, you can watch the program online. Archived programs are also saved on AFSP's website and all are free to view.
Help spread the word: To help us in our goal to reach every person affected by suicide loss, here are a few ways you can help spread the word:
  • Send an e-mail to your contact list, including a link to our preview of this year’s program
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper letting them know about an upcoming conference in your area.
  • Share it on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media
This is all possible, because of Overnight participants like you:
The International Survivors of Suicide Day conference is a result of Overnight participants' amazing efforts and dedication to the cause. Because of your fundraising efforts, we are able to continue this healing program and our mission to reach survivors of suicide and let them know they are not alone. Thank You.
